Laura Bruneau, B.A., LL.B., C.M.C. is an experienced, fluently bilingual lawyer from Canada's capital region, who specializes in resolving and settling sensitive disputes involving legal and/or administrative issues.
For over 15 years, Laura has worked in the field of lawsuits relating to professional negligence, director and officer liability, insurance coverage, medical malpractice, bankruptcy, employment law, shareholder rights and class actions. Laura has been repeatedly appointed by the Courts to respond to thousands of complaints and administrative appeals involving high profile, high conflict class action cases, where her work related to the adjudication of varying and complex individual issues. In the course of her work, she has responded to thousands of individual inquiries, complaints and claims Canada-wide, namely in the tainted blood scandal. Laura has attended numerous mediations and arbitrations plus assisted countless individuals by way of direct discussion about crystallizing their rights, to the legal extent possible.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Saint Francis Xavier University and a Law Degree from l'Université de Moncton, granted in 1991 at which time it was Canada's only French common law program. She is a graduate of the University of Windsor Law School program in advanced negotiation, mediation, and arbitration as well as the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators national program which develops professionals trained to uphold premier standards of corporate governance, effective operations and compliance. She is also a certified management consultant.
Laura was elected to the National Executive Committee of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Branch of the Canadian Bar Association in 2008. She was elected to the Board of Directors and appointed Treasurer of the Forum of Canadian Ombudsman in 2009. Laura is a volunteer lawyer with Pro Bono Law Ontario, a program that offers free legal support to eligible charitable and non-profit organizations in Ontario that otherwise could not afford the services of a lawyer. Laura also proudly serves as a board member of Ottawa's Hopewell Eating Disorder Support Centre.
