Ombudsman's Biography

Oriana Trombetti is an accomplished Executive and General Counsel who retired from the Canadian federal government as a Senior Executive, having worked in highly demanding roles for over 28 years. A member of the Ontario Bar since 1992, she worked primarily with the Federal Department of Justice where she started as counsel and was subsequently promoted into positions of increasing responsibility and with management components. She also served as Deputy Procurement Ombudsman with the Office of the Procurement Ombudsman from 2008 to 2011. Oriana is a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, who brings an ethical and results-oriented approach to her work.

Oriana has significant experience in the following areas:

  • Providing legal and strategic advice to clients in the areas of procurement, contract, commercial, administrative and crown law
  • Creating, leading and managing Legal Services Units
  • Providing Ombuds services, including dealing with complaints and providing alternative dispute resolution services
  • Developing governance practices, management practices, accountability frameworks (including organizational charts), integrity regimes and policies and procedures
  • Teaching and Training

Currently, Oriana is working part time as a private sector consultant and adjudicator and is teaching at the University of Ottawa. She sits on the Board of St. Patrick’s Long Term Care Home and is the Chair of the Governance Committee, and is also the Chair of the Board of the Eldercare Foundation of Ottawa.

Oriana is a life-long resident of Ottawa and is delighted to take on new responsibilities as the National Capital Commission’s Ombuds.
